Careers News 3 August 2020

Thinking about career and study pathways is a real focus for our Year 13s at the moment as they narrow down choices for their future beyond school. It was good to see so many boys planning their degree courses at AUT’s session on Tuesday. These included programmes in physiotherapy, podiatry, sport and recreation, communication studies, business, engineering and others. There are some new events added this week and an important notice about applying for tertiary accommodation, so please read all the updates and information below.


 

IN-SCHOOL EVENTS

Auckland University degree planning session @ Liston  – Tuesday 4 August (1:10pm in R3/4) Applying to study at UoA for 2021? Don’t miss this course planning session, beginning at the start of lunch-time. No need to sign up. Bring your laptop and your lunch!

IT careers presentation @ Liston – Thursday 6 August (in R3/4 at 1:10pm) *rescheduled* Techtorium (NZ Institute of Information Technology)  is coming in to speak to Years 11, 12 and 13 boys about this pathway and courses available in IT support, information systems and software development. Ideal for those not wanting to study to degree level. Support given to find employment. Sign up here to attend

New Zealand Careers Expo – Saturday 8 August (10:00am – 3:00pm) Held at ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane, this expo brings together universities, private training providers and trades organisations under one roof. For more information: https://www.careersexpo.org.nz/expos/auckland-2020

Auckland University ‘Online’ Open Day -  Tuesday 25th, Wed 26th & Thurs 27th August (6:00pm -9:00pm). Students and their parents are invited to attend one of three online events if they cannot make the on-campus open day. TERTIARY ACCOMMODATION & SCHOLARSHIPS

Applying for accommodation for 2021? Applications open on 1 August. Apply separately to each university for accommodation via their website. This needs to be completed by mid-September. You also need to complete a NZ Common Confidential Reference Form which sends a request for a reference to your school – one reference for all universities. Go to: www.ccrf.ac.nz

Deadlines are looming for school leaver scholarships! Year 13s please complete your Scholarship Intention Form and get your references organised. The University of Auckland has extended its deadline to 2 September.
