The aquaponic system is still a work in progress and not fully set up but he is currently growing pond plants in them. He also grows succulents, cacti, and house plants to sell at markets to fund for his gardening. Slade is also trialling terrariums.

Slade grows a lot of vegetables and fruits for his family and gives leftover seedlings to his family up north in Mangonui.
