Principal's Corner

This is a special newsletter - the result of a promise I made to a student! Benedict Chong-Wong was successful in winning the shotput in the Auckland Secondary Schools Championship -you may have read about this in a previous newsletter. Winning this title qualified Benedict to compete in the North Island Secondary Schools Championship in Tauranga. Before he left for the Championship I wished him well and asked what his personal best performance was. He told me it was 15.90 metres, I told him that if he beat 16.00 metres I would dedicate a newsletter exclusively for him. Benedict won the event with a throw of 16.15 metres which is why I have prepared this newsletter.

When we acknowledged Benedict's success at the Senior Assembly I commented on his many qualities that helped him to achieve this success. He is dedicated, disciplined and determined to succeed. He is also a very modest person who acknowledges his abilities but
quietly goes about his training.

Benedict will be representing Liston College again in the National Secondary Schools Championships at the end of the year, and we wish him well as he continues to prepare for event. His goal is to compete in the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro. With his current
progress and attitude he is giving himself every opportunity of achieving this goal. I look forward to keeping you informed of his progress.
