General Points - School Rules
Jewellery and General Appearance
Jewellery of any type is not permitted to be worn at school. This includes: studs, earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets etc. Where a student has long hair, this must be tied back. Extreme haircuts or hair colouring is not permitted. Students are to be clean shaven at all times.
Prohibited Substances
The possession and / or use of tobacco, alcohol, drugs, solvents or other substances on the school grounds, or while wearing school uniform, or at school functions (social or sporting) is prohibited.
Forbidden Articles
The following articles are not to be brought to school under any circumstances:
- any form of chewing gum
- knives or other dangerous weapons / instruments
- guns, imitation guns, water pistols, water bombs
- matches, lighters, fireworks
- objectionable written matter
- correcting fluid , solvent based permanent marker pens
- skateboards, roller blades etc
Confiscation of items / non regulation uniform items.
If non regulation uniform items, including caps, jewellery, T-shirts etc are worn to school or forbidden articles brought to school, staff may confiscate the item. In this case it will be held by the Deans. It will be returned on the last day of the school term at 3.30pm.
Cell Phones and other Electronic Devices
Where a student brings a cell phone or other electronic devices (including MP3 players, Ipods, walkmans etc) to school, they must be switched off in all classes / form time. If they are used at such times, staff may confiscate them and be returned on the last day of the term. Students bring cell phones and other electronic devices to school at their own risk. The school takes no responsibility for any loss or damage to them when brought to school by students.
Student use of cars
Where a student brings a car to school, they must not park in the school grounds. They must obtain permission from their Dean to go to the car during the school day. Students are reminded of the conditions associated with the type of license they hold. Where there is flagrant misuse of a vehicle or breaking of the law, this will be reported directly to the police.
International Students are not allowed to own a vehicle (car or motorbike) while at Liston College. They must have a New Zealand drivers licence to drive.
