INFORMATION REGARDING USING A DIGITAL DEVICE FROM LISTON COLLEGE in 2016
After two years of largely successful trails in Years 7 – 9 where students were invited to bring their own digital device (BYOD) for use in class it has been decided to extend the use of digital devices to all classes in Years 7 – 13 from 2016.
As part of the trial it was possible to borrow a laptop from Liston College to assist those families who were not able to provide one. From 2016 this process will be changing where Liston College will no longer be lending devices but will instead make available a laptop that can be purchased over a maximum of three years. This is to assist those families where finding all the money for the device in one go would be difficult.
Where a family wishes to take up the offer of this opportunity Liston College will purchase a laptop that meets the specifications as outlined below. A family wishing to purchase this device will then sign a contract to purchase the device over a maximum of three years. The amount will be added to your normal school account and paid off through the normal means whereby your school account is paid.
In agreeing to purchase the device the family will be taking full responsibility for the maintenance of the device and for any repairs due to damage caused to the device e.g. through dropping it etc. If the device is faulty then it can be returned to Liston College during the warranty period for repairs at no cost.
Device Specifications
- A portable device – a laptop (or tablet). Please note that feedback from the trials in 2014 and 2015 found that a laptop provides greater flexibility and is therefore recommended in preference to tablets.
- Running either Windows (PC’s), MacOS (Mac’s), iOS (ipads)
- Capable of connecting to the internet wirelessly
- Have a battery that can at least 6 or more hours
6 hours is the MINIMUM that the battery should last. - Capable of playing both sound and video
- Have a web cam installed
If using a laptop this should have at least 2GB of RAM (4GB recommended) and at least a 250GB hard drive.
A family wishing to take up this offer should contact the College at info@liston.school.nz and put the subject of the e-mail as Purchasing a Device. In the e-mail please add in your contact details (name and phone number) so someone from the College can get in contact with you. Instead of using e-mail you could also contact the school office once it opens on (09) 838 9350.
