Dear Parents and Caregivers
On Wednesday 26 October a successful Heroes Hour was organised by Mr Tony Worth and Miss Sarah Hooper. The students enjoyed hearing from Old Boys: Andrew McDaid, Ming Cheuk and Darroch Ball as well as Tyla Nathan-Wong (NZ Women's Sevens and Olympic Games Medalist) and Juliet Peterson (TVNZ 1 & Commonwealth Games Medalist) on their experiences and successes. Thank you to Tony and Sarah for organising this opportunity for the students.
Honary Ng (Old Boy & Associate Director CC Bank) talked to the boys on Thursday. We are deliberately encouraging Old Boys and others to share with the boys, their experiences and successes and particularly for the Old Boys, the College values they took with them in their life and work. As part of engaging with the wider community, we are grateful that these people are willing to make the time in their busy schedules to engage with the students. This is something we will continue to develop in the future.
Reminder: On Tuesday there will be a prize draw for all those who have paid their fees in full. Three winners will receive a $250 Pak'nSave gift voucher. Be in to win !
Wider Living Days: Activities are planned for after the junior exams. They are designed to give students different experiences before school finishes.
Congratulations to Alphaeus Ang who is now the NZ Junior Chess Champion (overall Under 20s) as well as the NZ School Pupils Champion and NZ Under 14 Champion. These are a fantastic achievements. Alphaeus is certainly a true chess champion.
The Senior students last school day before exams is Wednesday 2 November. I wish them well as they prepare for the external exams. During their study leave, staff are willing to assist students. Please encourage them to take advantage of this help.
God Bless you and your families.

Chris Rooney ~ 40 Years at Liston CollegeThe Board of Trustees, Staff (past and present) and students would like to congratulate Chris Rooney on his 40 years of employment at Liston College. This is a milestone well worth celebrating. Acknowledgement of his years of service to the College will be made at the Mass on Monday 31 October, with Bishop Pat Dunn in attendance. The Board of Trustees will make a presentation to Chris at Prizegiving on 1 November and there is a Wine & Cheese Evening on Friday 4 November at 6.30pm for past & present staff, students and members of the Liston Community. If you wish to attend the Wine & Cheese evening, please RSVP to Deirdre Auger: 8392291. Chris Rooney started at Liston College in 1976 as a classroom teacher, moving on to roles including Head of Department and Senior Master and upon the retirement of Frank Huckle in 1999 was appointed Principal. He has been actively involved in coaching sports teams, particularly Football and Tennis. He has seen many changes over the years. In 1976 the school roll was around 170 students (Years 7-9 only) growing to a roll of 840 students today. Chris has seen significant changes in education and has always had the student's needs in the forefront of his planning. This continues today as he plans ahead for the future. During his time as Principal, Chris has seen the growth of the school roll, and along with the Board of Trustees, driven extensive school development, including the building of a new administration facilities, new classrooms and the introduction of new technology. We are sure you will join us in congratulating Chris on the rare achievement of being in one work place for such a long time. Our thanks go to Chris on his vision for and leadership of Liston College. May God’s blessings be upon you this day and for the future years ahead. May His blessings never fade in every area of your life. |
