Scripture Quote

Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:12,13

Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  Jeremiah 29:12,13

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Survey
Each of the Senior Leadership Team are responsible for a School Improvement Project.  You may have had the opportunity to give feedback on some of these recently.  My School Improvement Project is centred on Curriculum Review, with the aim of making the Curriculum more student centred.  We have already surveyed a number of students and the staff.  A quick survey asking for your feedback is available by clicking HERE.

This is a good opportunity for us to hear your thoughts on this project.  It will only take 3 minutes to complete and I encourage you to do so.  The Curriculum review will extend into next year, so no significant changes will be made until the review is complete.

Soccer
I have had a number of parents express their concern over the state of the soccer pitches.  I do agree with this criticism. This is an issue which the Board of Trustees is considering with the aim of coming up with a permanent solution.

I am also reviewing the current structure of soccer to ensure that Senior Soccer is more competitive.

Congratulations
Congratulations to the 1st XV who have, again, reached the final of the 1B Competition.  They play Tamaki College at Eden Park on Saturday 20 August. Kick off is at midday and entry is free.

Prefects Fundraising
Thank you for your, your son’s support of the College Prefects as they have fundraised for the Catholic Caring Foundation.  I commend the Prefects on their hard work as they held a cycle-a-thon, raffle and sausage sizzle. At this stage they have raised over $1800.

Work Day
His year the project is to extend the seating area behind the Science block.  Last year, the initial seating area built has proven to be very successful. This year we intend to extend this and include terrace seating in front of the pavilion.

When this is completed, the students will have a greater area to sit at break times.  Spectators will be able to view soccer, rugby and cricket. For athletics days and similar events, students will be able to have a better spectator experience. The PE staff will have improved facilities to give PE classes instruction after they have changed in the pavilion.

I am sure that the completed project will benefit not only the students, but spectators who come for both winter and summer sports.

Tutorials
Teachers are continuing to offer lunchtime and after school tutorials for NCEA students.  Please refer to the schedule in this newsletter.  I encourage your son to take advantage of these tutorials.

Staffing
We farewell Mr Ndiweni who is moving to Hamilton and Mr James who is moving to Pukekohe.  We wish them well for the future.

Mrs Jeanette Atebelo is replacing Mr James and we are currently advertising for a replacement for Mr Ndiweni.  There will be some changes while we wait to appoint a Chemistry teacher, but we are fortunate that we are able to meet the learning needs of the Chemistry students with existing staff.

Father and Son Breakfast
Tickets are now for sale for the breakfast with Dillon Boucher.  Thank you to Harcourts - Blue Fern Realty, who are a major sponsor for the breakfast.  Tickets are $35 for two or $20 per person. We encourage not only fathers to attend, but significant males in your son's life - Grandfathers, Uncles, Brothers, friends etc.

Jeff Pattison
You will be aware that Jeff, who is a recent Old Boy, is suffering from melanoma and has been advocating for a change in funding from Pharmac for more effective drug availability. Please keep Jeff and his family in your prayers at this very difficult time.

God bless you and your families.
