Gifted and Talented Classes (GATE)
The students in this class follow alternative educational programmes which may involve some study at Level 1 NCEA and some alternative programmes of study designed to accelerate students and give them a more challenging academic year. The class is composed of about 15 students.
Students are in a core class together for English, Mathematics, Religious Studies, Social Studies, Science and Physical Education. They attend Year 9 or Year 10 Options classes. In each case they are following a programme of study tailored to their needs.
From the beginning of 2007 the class will be composed of those identified as Gifted and talented in the previous year’s Year 7 and 8 classes. The Year 8 students will spend one year in this class then graduate to the Cambridge programme, IGCSE (Year 11 equivalent) and the Year 7 students will spend two years in the class following preparatory studies courses before embarking on the Cambridge programme.
